Questions & Answers – Hearing Aid Care and Troubleshooting
1. Why is there no sound when wearing the hearing aid?
Please check the following:
a) Ensure the volume is adjusted to a comfortable and audible level.
b) Confirm the device has sufficient battery power.
c) Make sure there is no earwax buildup blocking the ear canal.
2. Why is there a whistling or sharp sound?
A high-pitched whistling (also called feedback) usually indicates the hearing aid is not fitted properly. When the ear tip does not seal the ear canal correctly, the sound from the receiver can loop back into the microphone, causing feedback.
Solution: Choose the correct ear tip size for your ear canal and ensure it fits securely and snugly inside your ear.
3. How should I care for my hearing aid?
a) Keep your hearing aids away from heat, moisture, and dust.
b) Clean the devices regularly, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Wax and moisture can damage internal components.
c) Avoid using hairsprays or other aerosol products while wearing your hearing aids.
d) Turn off your hearing aids when not in use to preserve battery life and prevent damage.
4. What are the most common causes of hearing aid damage?
To extend the lifespan of your hearing aid, avoid the following:
a) Improper Cleaning: Not cleaning your hearing aid or using incorrect methods can lead to malfunction.
b) Dropping the Device: Dropping it—even from a small height—onto a hard surface can cause serious internal damage.
c) Poor Storage Conditions: Storing your hearing aid in moist environments (like bathrooms) or hot places (like inside a car) can lead to component failure.
d) Exposure to Water or Aerosols: Wearing your device in the shower, while swimming, or when using hair dryers, sprays, or other aerosol products may expose it to moisture and clogging substances—damaging the microphone or receiver.
